Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park
Garuda Wisnu Kencana or shortly called GWK Statue is one of iconic place in south part of Bali Island. Located in Ungasan Village-South Kuta, District of Badung the Garuda Wisnu statue stand proudly on the white hill of Ungasan. After 28 years on and off construction works finally the gigantic statue of Garuda Wisnu completed in September 2018. Built inside the cultural park of GWK the statue become the third highest statue in the world.
According to Hindu belief Wisnu is one of the God in Hindu religion and Garuda is the mythical bird with the human body who become the God Wisnu companion and vessel. With the 121 meters tall the statue was designed by one of Balinese arts maestro I Nyoman Nuartha which is inspired by Hindu myth about the search of Amrtha or the holy water that can give the eternity. As one of biggest statue in the world Garuda Wisnu Kencana weight will be approximately 4,000 tons with mostly parts of statue made from copper.
Once enter the gate of GWK cultural park you will see the gigantic Garuda Wisnu in distance. The cultural park itself has many spots to be visit such as Wisnu plaza, the lotus pond, holy water temple and cultural stage which is the place to perform the dances from Bali and other island of Indonesia. The cultural park set on 250 hectares white rocky land, used for many international conferences, exhibitions also for cultural performances. Make sure to come before night time for a better picture and you will be able to explore all the park completely.
